Meet Our Instructors...

Paul R. Ketchen - Trombone

Paul R. Ketchen is Director of Instrumental Music at Hanover High School, where he teaches courses in piano, music theory and technology, AP music theory, and jazz history, improvisation and analysis. He directs the Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble, and his professional memberships include ITA, MENC, MMEA, MAJE, and ABA. Mr. Ketchen attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, for his undergraduate degree in music. He holds a Master of Music Education degree from the Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. While at Syracuse, he studied under William Harris and performed with the Syracuse University Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, and Trombone Choir, and was a founding member of the Syracuse University Trombone Quartet. He also served as a teaching assistant for several sight singing and ear training classes. At Florida State University, Mr. Ketchen studied under John Drew and performed with the Florida State University Symphonic Band, the Florida State University Trombone Choir, the Seminole Swing Machine, and the Symphonia Gulf Coast, and worked as a graduate teaching assistant for the Florida State University Bands. Mr. Ketchen has also been hired as a trombone and low brass clinician at several middle and high school music camps in the Southeastern US. In addition to his teaching duties at Hanover High School, Mr. Ketchen maintains a private studio of trombone students, plays bass trombone with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, and performs as a free-lance trombonist in the Boston area.
